Background
So this tool was created with a specific purpose in mind, though I realize that it could be used in much more situations.
At a club for which I did some voluntary work they had a monitor connected to a pc through a wall. The display showed some information for visitors and members. Trying to display a window of an application or a browser however usually took two senior members to position correctly. It always sounded like the one that was looking where the the other should move the mouse to, was guiding a crane. Down, down up, left, hold it steady… So I figured, that this job could be made much easier. Thus Screen Peek came into being.
How does it work
Screen Peek is probably one of the simplest tools I’ve ever created. The main window only has one choice to make. You have to select which screen you want to watch (1).
Once you have chosen the preferred screen, just hit the button SHOW SCREEN (2) and another window will popup with a preview of the screen you’ve just selected.
In this preview window you have a single setting. You can change the Refresh rate (1) of the capturing of the screen. By default it is set to refresh every 30 milliseconds. This will do just fine on an average computer purchased around 2017. However you may not need near real-time updates of your screen, if you just want to occasionally check if the other screen is still displaying properly. In this case you can set the Refresh rate to a larger value. For example 1000 milliseconds, which will refresh the preview every second. You can set it to a minimum of 5 ms and a maximum of 2000 ms.
Tip! You can close the main window while holding the preview window open. The application will only close if all windows have closed.
